ABOUT

Psalms Academy Inc. (PSA) is dedicated to providing excellent Pre-school (Pre-K) learning and Childcare services.

We used to offer Preschool classes only when we opened in September 2020. But, when we started to see the need of the parents and the community for the support of childcare, we extended our program to providing Pre-K classes and care with longer hours of operation in 2021.

Our humble in-home school offers fun and creative learning through following child’s interests and incorporating them into our lesson goals. We strongly believe that play is the key to the early learning, growth, and development of every child. We provide wide rooms of exploration and discovery to help and support a child’s holistic development (physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally).

PSA’s goal is to nurture children’s social and emotional development as it plays a big role for them to be able to get ready in attending school. This will result in them feeling confident and good about themselves, labeling their own and other people’s emotions, understanding feelings, showing empathy, successful interactions, and making friends. We believe that when a child is positively founded socially and emotionally, it boosts the rest of their gifts, potential, and abilities to shine!

CURRICULUM, FOUNDATION, AND PROGRAMS

CURRICULUM AND FOUNDATION

1. Play-based learning, child-led curriculum.
2. We aim to support the child's holistic development.
3. We value and support child's interests by expanding them through setting up interest-based activities, asking open-ended questions, making a learning web, and incorporating them into our learning goals.
3. Reggio Emilia Approach and Montessori Curriculum.
4. As the child’s social and emotional skills are being established through play, academic skills, and other gifts follow (i.e, public speaking/storytelling, writing, reading, math, comprehension, and science).
5. Aside from the parent and adviser as the teacher, PSA believes that the environment is the third teacher of the children.

STEM

  1. Develops problem-solving skills: STEM activities promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By engaging in hands-on activities, children learn to observe, hypothesize, experiment, and draw conclusions.

  2. Fosters creativity: STEM education encourages creativity and innovation. Children learn to think outside the box and come up with new ideas.

  3. Builds resilience: STEM activities involve trial and error, which helps children learn to persist through challenges and failures.

  4. Promotes curiosity: STEM education fosters curiosity and a love of learning. Children learn to ask questions and explore the world around them.

  5. Prepares for the future: STEM jobs are growing rapidly, and it's important for children to develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in these fields.

  1. Promotes creativity: Art allows children to express themselves creatively and develop their own unique ideas and perspectives. It encourages imagination and critical thinking.

  2. Develops fine motor skills: Art activities, such as drawing, painting, and cutting, require children to use fine motor skills, which can improve hand-eye coordination and dexterity.

  3. Enhances cognitive development: Art activities can promote cognitive development by helping children develop problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, and visual-spatial skills.

  4. Encourages self-expression: Art can be a way for children to express their emotions and thoughts in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

  5. Improves communication skills: Art activities can help children learn to communicate visually and verbally, using symbols and metaphors.

  6. Promotes cultural awareness: Art can expose children to different cultural traditions and ways of life, helping them develop an appreciation for diversity.

INDEPENDENCE AND LIFE SKILLS

Teaching preschoolers independence and life skills can help them build confidence, develop self-esteem, and prepare them for success in school and life.

  1. Self-care skills: Preschoolers should be encouraged to develop self-care skills, such as washing their hands, using the toilet independently, dressing and undressing, and brushing their teeth.

  2. Food and nutrition: Preschoolers can learn about healthy eating habits, how to make healthy food choices, and how to prepare simple snacks.

  3. Household tasks: Preschoolers can begin to learn basic household tasks, such as cleaning up after themselves, helping to set the table, and helping with chores like dusting or sweeping.

  4. Safety skills: Preschoolers should learn about safety rules, such as staying away from hot stoves, crossing the street safely, and understanding basic first aid.

  5. Social skills: Preschoolers can learn how to interact with others in a positive way, including sharing, taking turns, and using polite language.

  6. Decision-making skills: Preschoolers should be encouraged to make choices and decisions, such as choosing what to wear, what activities to participate in, or what toys to play with.

  7. Problem-solving skills: Preschoolers can learn problem-solving skills by working through simple puzzles or games, figuring out how to put toys or materials away, or practicing how to calm down when upset.
